**Selena Choi is no longer a member of the RTHK Quartet. Radio 4 thanks her for the contributions she has made to the Quartet. Name of the new member will be announced soon

RTHK Quartet was founded in 2009 with a view to promoting the genre of chamber music and encouraging the art of chamber music playing in Hong Kong. Violinist Le Hoai-nam, violist Elvis Chan and cellist Laurent Perrin are committed to introducing the rich world of chamber music, including some of the most profound and powerful music ever written, to music lovers in Hong Kong and beyond. The quartet members, who are all Hong Kong based musicians, come from different parts of the world: Vietnam, Hong Kong and Luxembourg. This diverse background reflects not only Hong Kong’s cosmopolitan environment but also the universal appeal of music. They have collaborated with a number of artists including pianists Nancy Loo, Geoffroy Couteau and Colleen Lee, sheng player Loo Sze-wang and the Manfred Quartet which is based in France. While committed to the core classical repertoire, RTHK Quartet also commissions and performs new works by Hong Kong composers and arrangements of Chinese music. So far, the Quartet has given world premières of 4 works by 3 composers.

As well as performing for local audiences at such venues as the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall and Theatre, RTHK Studio One, and the Academic Community Hall of Hong Kong Baptist University, the Quartet has also performed overseas, including in Rome in Italy, Dijon in France, and Shantou in China. The Quartet members have visited schools and a Cheshire Home, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art to share their music with the general public. They have also given masterclasses for young local musicians.

(Violinist Ayako Ichimaru was a founding member, who joined the Quartet until 2013, Selena Choi replaced her since 2014 until the end of 2015.)
