Waves of petitions for political reforms
have swept through Malaysia these years, but how much has the government
listened to? The dramatic downfall and the prosecution of the former
Vice Premier Anwar had led more general Malaysians asking what'd
happened as well as looking closely what the press said. The pro-government
papers obviously could not satisfy many readers' quest for information.
The sales of the best-selling pro government paper dropped drastically.
The curious public has turns to some other alternatives: web news,
opposite parties' papers and many others, which have emerged as
another media force. Yet, many Malaysian laws are still posing serious
threat to the press, namely the Publication Law, Sedition Law, Internal
