One sparsely populated island, two simple
and plain classrooms, three diligently cultivated teachers and ten
fishing-family pupils, all these constructed a real country-life
story, A Tiny School in a Huge City.
Observing the efforts from teachers of village
school for a small group of pupils, the loveliness of pure kids,
and the simplicity of fisherman life on a little island, a young
teacher from the clamorous city was inspired. His curiosity was
aroused towards everything on this island. At the same time, this
"outsider" interested the islanders. A-little-while encounters
between these two parties had created striking impacts on their
own selves.
How is the childhood of pupils in a village
school? How different is the teaching life of teachers there? A
young teacher gradually understands more and more about the meaningfulness
of presence of this tiny village school and teachers towards those
pupils and their parents﷿﷿however, the school is facing the fate
of being wiped out.
Past five years, Radio Television Hong Kong
(RTHK) has produced three series of educational docudrama "Respect
Our Teachers". In 2001, RTHK again produced another new series
of "Respect Our Teachers". Through the real cases, it
aims at educating the new generation a respectful attitude towards
their teachers, revealing the situations which nowadays teachers
have to face, as well as the appearance of campuses in this new
age.
The selected work A Tiny School in a Huge
City is one of the ten episodes in the "Respect Our Teachers".
Besides the story itself, all the little characters are the real
pupils in this tiny village school.
