End of Digital Radio Services / Loss of Voters’ Data

On Thursday's Backchat we're talking about the government's decision to pull the plug on digital audio broadcasting. The Executive Council concluded this week that there was no future for digital radio in Hong Kong because of changing listener habits, and after three commercial operators pulled out saying they couldn't attract enough listeners. That left RTHK as the sole remaining provider, and now its DAB services will be discontinued within six months or so, with programmes integrated into the existing FM and AM radio channels. So what do you think about the failure of DAB here? Is it a step backwards, when other places are still going ahead with the technology. Or was its end inevitable when commercial interest faded. After 9.20: The loss of voters' data. (8:30-9:30am, call in on 233 88 266, email backchat@rthk.hk or text 6393 5925)
