The driver of a double-decker bus died in the early hours of Sunday after a collision with a single-decker tourist bus in Cheung Sha Wan, police said.

The crash happened at about midnight on Saturday on Lai Po Road, leaving the 43-year-old driver trapped. Firefighters were able to release him but he was unconscious and was later confirmed dead at Princess Margaret Hospital.

The driver of the single-decker, aged 51, suffered bruising to his hands and feet and was also taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.

The driver worked for New World First Bus, which said it was deeply saddened by the death.

The company expressed condolences to the man's family and offered them help, adding that it would offer counselling to the driver's colleagues.

The bus firm also said it was assisting with a police investigation into the incident.
