Like their female counterparts, the Hong Kong men's team went as far as the final eight of the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu.

The SAR were beaten 3-1 by South Korea in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Hong Kong took an early lead when Wong Chun-ting defeated Cho Seungmin in the opening singles match. It was a see-saw affair in which Wong prevailed, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9.

But South Korea fought back, grabbing the next three single matches for the victory.

Jang Woojin had an easy time against Ng Pak-nam of the SAR, winning 11-4, 11-3, 11-4.

Up next for Hong Kong was Lam Siu-hang, who got off to a good start against Cho Daeseong, taking the first game 11-8. But his opponent rallied, winning 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 the rest of the way.

Wong then faced Jang in the fourth match of this round-of-eight showdown as he tried to keep the SAR alive. They split the first two games, but it was Jang who outlasted his Hong Kong rival, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.

South Korea will face Germany in the semifinals.

On Thursday, the Hong Kong women's team lost 3-2 against Germany in the quarterfinals.
