Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Myanmar and Thailand from August 14 to 17.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wang's trip to Myanmar is aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields and fostering closer bonds between the two peoples.
The spokesman also said China supports Myanmar's effort to maintain stability and develop its economy.
A senior Myanmar official said Wang would hold talks with the country's military chief during the visit.
Wang Yi will meet with Min Aung Hlaing, the senior official said.
After his visit to Myanmar, Wang will head to Thailand to co-chair the ninth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
The LMC is a regional cooperation mechanism among China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
On the sidelines of the LMC meeting, Wang will have informal discussions with his counterparts in Thailand, Myanmar and Laos on the regional situation. (Additional reporting by Xinhua and AFP)
