Beijing announces memorial service for Jiang Zemin

A memorial service will be held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday for former president, Jiang Zemin, who died in Shanghai on Wednesday at the age of 96. During the service, people across the country will observe three minutes of silence. In Hong Kong, Chief Executive John Lee has led mourners in paying their respects to the late former state leader. HK reports eight percent jump in Covid cases

Health authorities say there are no plans to tighten social distancing measures for now despite the daily number of new Covid infections reaching five-digits for the first time since early September. Meanwhile, the Hospital Authority says three children infected with Covid were recently put into intensive care and that a three-year-old boy has been critically ill after catching the flu. More primary schools meet threshold for full-day classes

Some primary three students have attended full-day school for the first time ever, with classes having been disrupted during the almost three-year Covid pandemic. The students are among those attending primary schools at which at least 70 percent of pupils have been double-vaccinated - so the schools are allowed to resume full-day, in-person lessons. Police have arrested four people linked to a beauty centre in Jordan where three women developed botulism symptoms after receiving Botox injections. Officers have not ruled out further arrests, as Sean Kennedy reports:

A plastic surgeon has reminded consumers to use doctors when receiving injectable beauty treatments. Dr Stephanie Lam says botulism from injections is very rare, with only around 30 cases in Hong Kong in recent years. But she told Samantha Butler that early treatment was important as there was no antidote:
Wan Chai fire classified as murder

Two men have died in a fire in Wan Chai, with police classifying the case as murder, arson and suicide. More than 30 people had to be evacuated from the building in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police believe the two men had an argument, before one attacked the other and then set fire to the unit. Damon Pang reports:
Govt hasn't ruled out peak hour toll fees

The head of the government's Transport Advisory Committee has revealed that the government plans to introduce different hourly rates at the three cross-harbour tunnels, but only after a planned toll adjustment next year. Stephen Cheung's comment came as a number of lawmakers complained that plans to reduce the difference in toll charges between the three tunnels would not improve congestion. Vanessa Cheng reports:

The High Court has acceded to the government's request for an adjournment of the national security trial of former media tycoon, Jimmy Lai. This is to allow the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to decide whether the original intention of the law it passed was to allow foreign lawyers to take part in such cases.
