An honorary chairman of the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Association, Danny Lau, said the "Made in Hong Kong" label must be kept because it is synonymous with good quality and rarity. He made the remark after the government vowed to keep the label to uphold the SAR's status as a separate customs territory in the World Trade Organisation. On Wednesday, the WTO concluded that Washington's decision that products from the SAR must be declared as coming from China breaches global trade rules. Lau told Ben Tse that Hong Kong manufacturers will suffer if the US refuses to abide by the WTO ruling and change its labelling rules.

Respiratory medicine specialist Leung Chi-chiu has called on people not to let their guard down over the upcoming festive season, to help reduce the burden on the public health system. The daily Covid caseload in Hong Kong has stayed around the 15-thousand mark for more than a week now, although the number of patients requiring hospital treatment remains stable. Leung told Hailey Yip that people should take every precaution to lessen the risk of the virus spreading to vulnerable members of the population, such as the elderly and the unvaccinated.
