A China expert has expressed shock over Beijing’s passage of national security law for Hong Kong without publishing full details of it. Professor Jean-Pierre Cabestan, of the Department of Government and International Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University says he expects the new law will put an end to calls for independence. But he told Jim Gould that he does not think it will stop people from calling for greater democracy in Hong Kong.
India bans TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps Listen
India's government has banned TikTok and dozens more Chinese-made apps it says are a danger to the country. In a statement, it said the apps were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order". In total, 59 apps were banned - among them popular messaging app WeChat. It follows escalating tensions along the disputed border between the two powers. For its part, TikTok has denied sharing users' data with the mainland authorities. Annemarie Evans asked our Delhi correspondent Murali Krishnan if the ban has to do with recent tensions between China and India.
