A Journey of Enlightenment Across Sichuan
2020-08-05
Sichuan is the known as a “Country of Heaven”. Its mountainous terrain and harsh environment have given rise to a unique cultural landscape and also left behind much epic history. Cultural traveller Sabrina Cheung will first visit the World Heritage Sites of Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei, climbing Golden Summit of the latter, before proceeding to Luding County. There, she will cross the chain bridge built in the Qing dynasty during Emperor Kangxi’s rule and personally experience the hair-raising Battle of Luding Bridge which took place amidst the Red Army’s 8,000-mile Long March. She will then head to Emutang Pasture and Riganqiao Everglades in high-altitude Hongyuan County, retracing the steps of the Red Army’s arduous trek across expansive stretches of deadly marshlands known as the “Sea of Death”. Finally, she will arrive in the Tibetan region of Sêrtar, where the world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist institute, Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy, and Zhuokeji Headman’s Official Mansion in Barkam await exploration.
