The Faculty of Medicine has nurtured talents in various medical fields for the city during its century-long medical journey. Whether they are specialists of rare diseases or family doctors serving the grassroots in communities, they are all dedicated to their own fields, helping the sick and making unacknowledged contributions to society. Dr. Michael TO Kai-tsun, a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon and the Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, travels frequently between the Mainland and Hong Kong to bring hopes to the patients suffering from a rare genetic disease commonly known as “brittle bone”. Family doctor FUNG Tat-biu has been serving the local community for over forty years, by immersing himself into it and caring for underprivileged patients all along. While public housing estates can be demolished and rebuilt, the caring network within a community remains all the same.

The term “Great Medical Practitioner” comes from a book written by SUN Simiao, a medical practitioner of the Tang Dynasty, and refers to medical practitioners must have good medical skills and uphold medical ethics.
Today, in response to our social needs, medical skills and ethics must also be emphasised in nurturing medical practitioners. Six episodes of 30-minute documentaries “The Making of Healers” will analyze the medical education in Hong Kong and its current situation. Through recording the training, clinical work and research development, we explore the spirit of medical training in Hong Kong.
