On Friday's Backchat: the shrinking student population; and panic buying.
The Education Bureau says it's expecting the number of school-age children to decline in future, and this trend is “structural” rather than “transient”.
In a paper submitted to the Legislative Council, the bureau said it may decide to “cease the operation of schools with persistent under-enrolment”. While schools in districts with a surplus of places may also be relocated to areas with excessive demand. So how serious is the situation? Is it a bad thing?  And what impact will it have on education here?
After 9.15am, we’ll be discussing the psychology of panic buying after many supermarket shelves were emptied ahead of the approach of typhoon Kompasu.
