CIBS Programme: Diversity Strengthens our Community: Hamro Sathi (多元文化壮社群)




    Since 1990s, more than 40,000 Nepalese people have made Hong Kong their home. In the last two decades, some non-Nepalese people supported them to build a Hong Kong Nepalese community. This programme introduces how these supporters have connected to the local Nepalese.

    Episode 13:Diversity in Hong Kong education

    Dr. Carlos Soto is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong. He began his career in education in the United States, where worked in schools and the non-profit education sector. Since 2009, he has worked in Hong Kong’s diverse education system as a teacher and researcher, focusing on developing critical educational practices.He had also worked with the Hong Kong Nepalese secondary and university students.
    In this episode, we will discuss with him the importance of diversity and critical pedagogy in the education system, how it can support the students from diverse backgrounds who are deprived of quality education and help to develop the full potential of students. how it can be implemented and developed in the Hong Kong education system and institutes. How was his experience working with Nepalese students and their potential?

    Episode 11: Connecting Hong Kong Nepalese in Hong Kong Arts

    Stanley Wong, alias Anothermountainman, is a renowned visual communicator from HK, with 40 years of experience in design, art, and education. His personal creations, and works of photography, design, and advertising have won more than 600 Hong Kong and international awards. He received the Hong Kong Arts Development Award 2011 and the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Award 2012.
    His "redwhiteblue" series represented HK in the Venice Biennale in 2005. Over the past 40
    years, he has contributed his creativity to business and art and devoted himself to promoting wellbeing and social values through visual art media. He had also covered the HK Nepalese stories in his work. In this episode, we will discuss with him his artwork, include of HK Nepalese story in his artwork, how the arts can help to promote and develop the relation and exchange between HK local and Nepalese community, the importance of HK diverse background culture, and stories to include in the HK arts to make HK inclusive society.
