If you're as good as Laurence Juber is on acoustic guitar, a band is superfluous. His jazz-oriented fingerstyle playing is a delight, as is the selection of tunes on his new album. Come for the Juber, stay for two hours of satisfying jazz.
He's probably the most exciting trumpeter in jazz, and his capacity for surprising listeners seems inexhaustible. His new album travels simultaneously back into the African roots of the music and forwards towards the limitless horizons of electronic expression. Prepare to be astonished this week.
