China-UK rapprochement / Gaza ceasefire deal

On this week’s edition of Global Focus, we’re talking about the future of Sino-British relations. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves at the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue in Beijing last week, as both sides signaled their willingness to re-engage after a six year hiatus, with trade and green energies high on the agenda.

However, uncertainty looms as to how much influence the new Trump administration would have on the future of economic ties between the UK and China. So how far is Keir Starmer’s government ready to go in boosting ties with China? And how much influence will the US have on the UK’s trade policy with the region?

In the second part of the programme, we're talking about the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, following month of negotiations brokered by Egypt and Qatar. What are the implications? Was US President-elect Donald Trump involved? And how fragile is this agreement?

    9:05am-9:30am: China-UK rapprochement

Hong Kong 2025 property outlooks /"Storm Clouds" drama: interview with the Hong Kong Dance Company

    主持人:Danny Gittings and Tony Sabine

On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re looking at what to expect from Hong Kong’s property market in 2025.

The government is taking a cautious approach, offering only one plot of land to developers in the last quarter of this financial year.
Some analysts predict that the 10,000 new flats set to come on the market this year will also add to the existing glut of unsold units and further depress property prices.
But others are more optimistic, predicting that residential prices—and especially rentals—may record modest increases during the coming year.
So who’s right, and which way will the local property market move in 2025? We’ll talk to the experts.
After 9:45, we’re learning more about a martial arts dance drama by the Hong Kong Dance Company that’s based on a local comic legend.
