“Hong Kong’s Top Story 2018” Award Presentation Ceremony
Eight Outstanding Fiction-writing Talents Awarded Prizes

To promote expressive talents in English, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 3 joins hands with Hong Kong Free Press and PEN Hong Kong to co-organise the English writing competition “Hong Kong’s Top Story 2018”. After receiving the fantastic response of 395 entries from the community, the judges selected eight prize-winners in both Junior and Adult Categories, with two of them granted the “Creative Award”. An award presentation ceremony was held on 11 December at RTHK.

The awards were presented by Acting Deputy Director of Broadcasting (Programmes) Kirindi CHAN Man-kuen, Managing Editor of Hong Kong Free Press Sarah KARACS and President of PEN Hong Kong Jason NG. Kirindi CHAN mentioned that the competition has again attracted a lot of talented writers to take part, and that fantastic responses of almost 400 entries from the community were received. She also hoped that in promoting literary activities, it can nurture the growth of the cultural and artistic scene of Hong Kong and benefit all English speakers in Hong Kong, young listeners and readers.

The competition was launched in mid-September. It was open to secondary students (aged 12 to 17) as well as adults (aged over 18). This year, the applicants were invited to write an original story with the theme of “Sounds of Hong Kong”. Winners of each category were presented books from Pan Macmillan and dining vouchers from the Lan Kwai Fong Group. The winning entries will be published on the websites of RTHK (radio3.rthk.hk), Hong Kong Free Press (hongkongfp.com) and PEN Hong Kong (penhongkong.org), as well as broadcast on RTHK Radio 3.
