今集会带大家看看一粒栖息了大量生物的行星。它在哪？它在离太阳系很远的地方，这粒行星位于全宇宙最常见的一种星体附近，就是红矮星。围绕红矮星运行的行星，很有可能栖息了外星生物，在这颗星上，地球的自然法则全部都不适用，但当地的生物，演化时间比起地球上的生物更长，所以有可能比人类演化得更加成熟。

In this episode, we’ll explore an alien planet that is filled with life. Where is that planet? Far beyond our solar system. It is near the kind of star that is most common in the universe, a red dwarf. Planets revolving around such stars may be the best candidates for hosting alien life. On this planet, what is natural on Earth does not apply. Life on these planets has had much more time to evolve than on Earth. There may be life forms that have evolved far beyond us.

人类一直想尽办法减少体力劳动和重覆性工序，在科技未出现之前，通常都是靠剥削其他同伴来达到目的。找机械人帮手似乎是个可行方法，几百年来，机械人技术令不少人深深着迷，就连希腊神话中的赫菲斯托斯也制造了机械工人帮忙铸铁。不过，人工智能技术的发展要到最近才渐见成熟，有望改变人类的未来。

Mankind has always looked for ways to reduce manual labor and repetitive tasks. To that end, and in the absence of technology, civilization exploited various me- thods, often by taking advantage of their fellow humans. Robots, as a potential solution, have long fascinated mankind, capturing our imagination for centuries. Even in Greek mythology, the god Hephaestus had « mechanical » servants. But not until recently, has artificial intelligence finally progressed to a level that will become more and more life-changing for the future of humanity.

地球有46亿年历史，如果要将人类放进画面里，把数字改成46年会较容易理解：智人四小时前抵达欧洲，工业革命则在这分钟才开始。在这段时间里，我们已经破坏了地球超过一半的树林，并危及到四分之一的动植物种。情况史无前例般糟糕，我们对生态系统和生物多样性的破坏程度之高，不仅对环境构成威胁，甚至威胁到人类自身的存活。为避免地球走向悲惨未来，人类必须坐言起行，保护大自然。

To put humanity into perspective, if we reduce this figure to 46, we can say that Homo sapiens arrived in Europe 4 hours ago, and our industrial revolution began just this minute. In this time frame, we have destroyed more than 50% of earth’s forests, while putting at risk 25% of animal and plant species. These observations are unprecedented. The destruction of our ecosystems and our biodiversity has reached levels that threaten not only the environment, but the survival of our species.
