    Builders
How could we put an end to the excessive cost in energy and raw materials, to the waste and pollution generated by our constructions? How could we « grow », no matter the scale, virtuous, sustainable and universal materials which will constitute tomorrow’s building facades?

All designers and architects we meet are fascinated: the living organisms they observe have already answered these questions. For millions of years, animals, plants and germs have developed the most varied and effective solutions to build the most beautiful structures, membranes or covers, the most protective housing adapted to their environment by simply using the ingredients and energy at their disposal.

What if we copied nature and built all our constructions with sustainable, fossil fuel free and self-repairing bio inspired materials fitted with multiple functions and performances?

Houses, buildings, skyscrapers:  through observation, poetry, robots and 3D printers, the innovators of tomorrow try to mimic those super abilities of the living to build tomorrow’s world.

      Mobility
In a world in constant acceleration but with limited resources, how to invent means of transportation that are less polluting, less greedy in raw materials and with no impact on our environment? How to make objects and robots with more reliable, more fluid and more efficient movements?

Animals, plants, microbes ... The living has found remarkable solutions to escape and attack optimally, to propel, accelerate, coordinate its movements in the most precise way, and to avoid collisions energy-efficiently, to go the furthest possible. This development took millions of years but without generating any rubbish, without wasting the materials at immediate disposal.

In this episode, we will discover how, by seeking to copy the super solutions imagined by these organisms to move as efficiently as possible on land, in the water or in the air, the creators of the future, whether they are engineers, entrepreneurs or scientists, invent the world of tomorrow.

      Sensibility
Sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste: our 5 senses allow us to understand the world around us and warn us of its dangers. But as advanced as our eyes, our ears, our noses, our taste buds or our skin may be, our sensory organs do not allow us to apprehend all threats! There are indeed "signals" that we humans are unable to perceive with the senses that nature has endowed us with.

Meanwhile, some living species can easily sense and decode these signals (infrared, vibrations...) because, over billions of years of evolution, they were compelled to devise hyper-efficient detection strategies and to develop overpowering sensors to protect themselves, communicate or feed.

What if we could copy these "super sensors" to increase our own capabilities? What if nature taught us how to swiftly identify the dangers that await us, so that we could avoid them better?

      Resistance
Man is far from being that gifted! Evolution has given us a powerful brain that allows us to explore the world, from the subatomic world to outer space, but we remain totally fragile and dramatically vulnerable! Our body is our main weakness: a simple fall high of a few steps can leave us paralyzed, a common virus can take us away in a few hours, the lack of oxygen can do so in less than 2 minutes ...

Even our industrial objects, as effective as they may be, are far from equaling the resistance of raw materials created by nature! Shells, scales, armor... Living organisms are far better engineers than us, able to create the strongest protections from abundant resources, spending a minimum of energy and without any waste.

      Adhesion
A lot of organisms have found wonderful solutions to adhere to all kinds of surfaces in nature, whether it is to accommodate, to move or to protect themselves. Others, on the contrary, succeeded to create the most slippery surfacing on which no dirt, no germ or anything else can hang.

What if these adhesion and slip superpowers created by the living world could enable us to innovate? Materials that “bind” or “repel” are essential and have always been a part of our fundamental needs. More and more scientists, designers and entrepreneurs draw inspiration from fauna and flora to create cheaper, more efficient and more sustainable sticky or slippery materials and surfacing than the ones currently used.
