 In this week's episode, we will talk about authorship in early China. In pre-imperial China, individual authorship was not valued as much as the collective roles involved in the creation and interpretation of texts. Professor Martin Kern from Princeton University will shed light on the importance of text reception, performance and transformation and give us a new framework to think about textual agency and authority. Professor Kern was invited by the New Asia College and Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK to give a talk entitled Rethinking Authorship in Early China, and we'll hear part of it this week.
