People wrapped up warm on Tuesday as local temperatures fell to 12 degrees Celsius.

The Observatory said districts like Tai Po, Tuen Mun and Sha Tin saw temperatures lower than that.

It said an intense northeast monsoon is bringing cold weather to the coast of Guangdong, which is why temperatures dipped on Tuesday morning.

One man told RTHK he wasn't too bothered by the colder weather, but made sure he wrapped up warm.

"It's very cold. It's much colder than I expected, but it's still pleasant right now. I've got to make sure I'm wearing two to three layers," he said.

Another person hoped it would get warmer again.

"I don't like this. I feel more comfortable with warmer weather," she said.

The Centre for Health Protection reminded the public, especially the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, to protect their health.

"Elderly people have less insulating fat beneath their skin to keep them warm, and their body temperature control mechanisms may be weaker. Their body may not be able to appropriately respond to the cold weather," a spokesman said.

Forecasters said temperatures would rise slightly in the coming few days, but would drop again over the weekend.
