On Friday's Backchat we're talking about biodiversity.

A United Nations conference on the issue now meeting in the Canadian city of Montreal is consider-ing a proposal to put 30 percent of land and sea under protection by 2030.

The urgent need for action was underscored by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the opening of the conference. He said humanity has become "a weapon of mass extinction" and gov-ernments must end the “orgy of destruction”.

According to a UN report, more than 1 million species are now threatened with extinction, while as much as 40% of Earth's land surfaces are considered degraded.

So what can we expect from the summit? How can we better preserve biodiversity locally and globally?

After 9:15am, we'll find out more about Hong Kong's first guide dog training school.

And at 9:25 we‘ll get the latest World Cup update from our sports correspondent.
