Art Gallery Concert at Hong Kong Lingnan University 2016
2016-03-15
Art Gallery Concert at Hong Kong Lingnan University
It’s the 7th concert at the Lingnan University campus. This year, we did something we never did before. Firstly, a new performing venue, the University Gallery. The acoustic is so good in such a huge chamber room full of artistic atmosphere. Both performers and audience enjoyed having good music there. Secondly, it’s the first time for the Quartet to work with a Chinese musical instrumentalist in the campus. Loo Sze-wang performed 2 commissioned works with the Quartet inside the Gallery. Lastly, it’s the first time for the Quartet to have a pre-concert seminar with the Lingnan students. The concert programme is a East-meet-West one, with Borodin’s String Quartet No.2, and Hong Kong composer Chan Hing-yan’ works. The 5 musicians also played a Chinese folksong entitled Yao People’s Dance, a special arrangement fo sheng and string quartet by Loo Sze-wan.

Repertoire:
Borodin: String Quatet N in D
Chan Hing Yan: Two Pieces of Cantonese Music
Chan Hing Yan: As the Wind Goes By
Loo Sze Wang (arr.) Dance of the Yao People

School Workshops (March 2016)
2016-03-02
Sharing the love of music with the owners of the future is always the top priority of the RTHK Quartet. Therefore, they did 3 school workshops on 2 mornings. The 3 schools were Tak Sun School, ISF Academy and Po On Commercial AssociationWong Siu Ching Secondary School. With the introduction from Raymond Chung, the manager of the Quartet, the musicians not only demonstrated the unique sound and various techniques on their instruments, but also performed movements from Dvorak’s Amercian Quartet and Mozart’s famous Eine kleine Nachtmusik, K.525. We look forward to meeting more lovely faces at different schools in the short future.

Repertoire:
Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik, K.525 (excerpts)

Dvorak: American Quartet OP,96/12 (excerpts)

Classical Insights: Dvořák: "American" Quartet (2016 Hong Kong Chamber Music Festival)
2016-01-23
On 23 January, the four members teamed up with musicologist Maureen Buja in a chamber music workshop as part of the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival. Using Dvorák’s American Quartet as a foundation, they demonstrated how a string quartet performs and what’s in the mind of the composer. The concert took place at the Asia Society in Admiralty, a relaxing venue perfect for this navigational performance.

(guest violinist: Winty Wan)
