Former world number one Naomi Osaka said on Monday she may skip Wimbledon over the decision to strip the Grand Slam tennis tournament of ranking points.
The Japanese player said that's affecting her mentality going into the grass season, after her 7-5, 6-4 loss to Amanda Anisimova in the first round of the French Open.
The ATP and WTA tours last week removed ranking points from Wimbledon after the All England Club banned Russian and Belarusian players in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine.
Reigning French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova also crashed out in the first round at Roland Garros, losing in three sets to French teenager Diane Parry.
But top-seed Iga Swiatek eased her way into the second round in straight sets, as did China's Zheng Qinwen. (addtional reporting AFP)
