President Xi Jinping has made a key speech at a government meeting in Beijing, where he stressed the importance of neighbouring countries and the need to deepen all-round cooperation.
Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday that Xi told the central conference on work related to neighbouring countries that Beijing will strive to open new ground for China's neighbourhood work.
The meeting, held from April 8 to 9, pointed out that it is necessary to strengthen strategic mutual trust with neighbouring countries, support the stabilisation of regional countries’ development and properly manage differences.
It said there is a need to jointly safeguard the stability of the region and carry out security and law enforcement cooperation to cope with risks and challenges.
The meeting also noted that the nation’s relationship with neighbouring countries is at its best in recent times.
Meanwhile, Malaysia announced on Wednesday that it will host President Xi for a three-day visit next week.
"Malaysia will receive a state visit by President Xi Jinping from April 15 to 17," the country’s communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said. (Additional reporting by Reuters and AFP)
