Blurring lines between AI and reality, and Amazon's new chatbot for enterprises

Increasingly common deepfake scams – where fraudsters look or sound like someone else with the help of artificial intelligence – have taught us that things we see online may not be true. But have you thought that one of the guest speakers of a conference you are attending can also be AI-generated and non-existent?

This was the case with DevTernity, an online developer conference. Event organiser Eduards Sizovs admitted that a female speaker was “auto-generated, with a random title, random Twitter handle, random picture” as part of a test website that wasn't meant to be made public.

The tech community wasn't happy. Executives at Microsoft and Amazon dropped out of the event, and the conference was eventually cancelled.
