‘Influencers play important role of telling good stories of HK and China’

American YouTuber and influencer IShowSpeed took China by storm recently, bringing his brand of chaos and eccentric style to the public in cities like Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

He joined a Shaolin temple to learn kung fu, livestreamed driving a BYD car, met with pandas, and interacted with celebrities and other influencers.

Officials including Chief Executive John Lee hailed the visit, saying it helped to showcase the country on the world stage.

Azam Khan spoke to Brian Yeung, an award-winning communications professional and co-founder of Brandstorm Communications, on how influencers like IShowSpeed promote China’s soft power.
