Subsidence disrupts border traffic crossings  Listenfacebook
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Lam Sai-hung, has told the people of Hong Kong that supplies of fresh food will not be affected by subsidence at the Man Kam To border crossing. He offered the reassurance after Shenzhen authorities suspended passenger and truck crossings at the checkpoint on Monday because of subsidence. They said urgent repairs are underway, as Kelly Yu reports:

There has been another incident involving falling concrete in Mong Kok, the third this month, with debris this time raining down from an industrial building onto Tong Mei Road. The government says it has ordered the owner of the 40-year-old block to investigate the incident and submit a proposal for repair work. Frank Yung reports:

Officials in Guangdong say three children were among six people stabbed to death on Monday at a kindergarten in the east of the province. One other person was wounded, while police have arrested a young man. Wendy Wong reports:

A unionist lawmaker says the government should do more to attract local workers to the transport industry. Lam Chun-sing made the comment after Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung said drivers and other workers from outside of Hong Kong could begin working in the transport industry here in the final quarter of this year. A scheme to import thousands of workers for the sector will begin accepting applications next week. Under it, up to 6,300 non-local staff can be recruited to join the aviation industry, while the quota for the public light bus and coach trade is set at 1,700. Lam told Janice Wong that the government should strike a balance between importing workers and protecting local employees:
Cardinal-to-be in 'disbelief'  Listenfacebook
The head of Hong Kong's Catholic Diocese says he was in disbelief after learning on Sunday that he would become a cardinal. Bishop Stephen Chow was one of 21 clerics that Pope Francis elevated to cardinal during a service at the Vatican. As Altis Wong reports, the cardinal-to-be has vowed to continue praying for reconciliation in society:
Appointment 'shows Vatican wants better ties with the mainland'  Listenfacebook
A theologian and associate professor at the Chinese University says while Bishop Stephen Chow is not the first to be appointed a cardinal from the Hong Kong Diocese, the move implies that the SAR will play a larger role in the Vatican going forward. Professor Kung Lap-yan also said the move is a continuation of what was achieved during Chow's historic visit to Beijing in April. He told Kelly Yu it shows that the Vatican wants to build stronger ties with Catholic churches in both Hong Kong and the mainland:

The Secretary for Justice has lodged a formal complaint to the Bar Association and Law Society against two of the eight national security suspects living overseas. Paul Lam accused barrister and former lawmaker Dennis Kwok and solicitor Kevin Yam of professional misconduct. Frank Yung has the details:

Flash floods in northern India have claimed the lives of dozens of people. Torrential rain triggered the flooding near Delhi, sweeping away bridges and buildings, and leaving residents stranded.
