The government has been urged to provide more mental health support for the homeless. It comes after the number of registered street sleepers under the Social Welfare Department doubled over the past nine years. Hong Kong Shue Yan University and an NGO, ImpactHK, interviewed 89 homeless people this year. Bess Lam, an assistant professor of psychology at the university, told Anne Chan that almost half of the respondents suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder:

A charity that helps the homeless says it is starting an outreach podcast, so people can hear the stories of the homeless and have more respect and engagement with them. Chinese University researchers say the rate of short-sightedness among Hong Kong children is worrying. The university's department of medicine made the statement after it conducted a study between 2015 and 2021, involving more than 20,000 children aged six to eight. While a quarter of the children were found to be short-sighted in 2015, this fell to just over 23 percent between 2016 and 2019, before jumping to a record high 36 percent by 2021. Kowloon Motor Bus says 2,000 of its buses, or about half of its fleet, could be partly powered by solar energy by the end of this year.
