Saturday was Organ Donation Day, but hospital officials say Hong Kong needs to do a lot more work to bring the number of kidney donations here up to a higher level. As of September, more than 2,430 late-stage kidney failure patients were still waiting for a new organ. The chairman of the Productivity Council, Sunny Tan, says small- and medium-sized companies can apply for funding if they want to upgrade their operations with technology. Speaking after attending a radio programme, Tan said the council had helped with some 1,200 projects, with most setting up factories in Shenzhen or Dongguan. Tan told Damon Pang that technology upgrades can make businesses more profitable:

Alibaba Group has reported that its Chinese e-commerce platforms Tmall and Taobao recorded a "positive" year-on-year growth over this year's Singles Day sales period, which wrapped up at midnight on Saturday. Meanwhile, competitor JD.com said its 'festival gross merchandising volume' hit a record-high over the sales period. Aaron Tam reports:

The US government is preparing for a possible shutdown this Friday, with federal funding set to expire. The political brinkmanship around the US debt ceiling saw ratings agency Moody's lower its outlook on the US credit rating from stable to negative, on Friday. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Barry Wood, told Cecil Wong that the downgrade will affect the markets:

Operation Santa Claus 2023 is in full swing and we are raising money for 16 charities this year. One of the beneficiaries is Foodlink Foundation - a charity that helps deliver safe-to-eat surplus food from food outlets across the territory to those in need, while reducing food wastage at the same time. The group's head of operations, Aurea Yung, says they will use the donation to extend their successful charity project called "We Love Green Food Store" that has already been in operation for around half a year. The store, located in Kwun Tong, supplies surplus fresh produce collected from partner supermarkets to elderly residents and low-income families in the area. Yung says they expect their store to have served more than 2,000 individuals after their first year of operation. She spoke to Janice Wong:
