Beijing has strongly deplored a statement by the United States on the Taiwan leadership race. Over the weekend, William Lai of the Democratic Progressive Party, the DPP, finished first. Aaron Tam reports:

An expert from a leading think tank says Beijing is not going to take action against Taiwan, unless the island makes "antagonistic statements". Einar Tangen, a senior fellow at the Taihe Institute, also said the outcome of the leadership race in Taiwan showed that people on the island might want more engagement with Beijing. The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said the poll's results revealed that the party could not represent the mainstream public opinion. Tangen spoke to Frank Yung:

The Houthi militia have threatened a "strong and effective response" to US and UK air strikes in Yemen, further escalating tensions in the region. Those strikes were in retaliation against the Iran-backed Houthi forces, who have been carrying out months of attacks on Red Sea shipping. The Houthi militia want Israel to end its war in Gaza. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Barry Wood, told Samantha Butler that this was an expansion of the war in Gaza:
King of Kowloon artwork restored in Prince Edward  Listenfacebook
The MTR Corporation says it has restored a giant Chinese calligraphy mural by the late artist known as the "King of Kowloon". It is the largest of his three known works that are preserved at their original sites. Chloe Feng reports:
