The first stage of Hong Kong's ban on single-use plastic items comes into effect from Monday. It covers a range of items from umbrella bags, toothpicks and even free toothbrushes in hotels. Meanwhile, restaurants will have to reconsider their use of plastic cutlery, cups and food containers. As Violet Wong reports, many eateries across the city are not ready for the new rules:

Edwin Lau, executive director of The Green Earth, says people should start bringing their own utensils to restaurants, and eateries should also let customers rent reusable ones for takeaways. After months of dysfunction and stalemate, the US House of Representatives has approved a foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other allies. They also passed a measure to clamp down on TikTok. The whole package will go to the Senate, which could pass it as early as Tuesday. President Biden has promised to sign it immediately.
