On Tuesday's Backchat: A digital health health code and conditions for opening the border; and plans for an upgrade of Sai Wan Ho.
The Innovation and technology secretary Alfred Sit says a number of proposals have been submitted to mainland authorities on how a Hong Kong health code should work, in the hope that quarantine-free travel to the mainland can resume.
He said options include allowing people to declare voluntarily where they'd been every day, and report whether they'd visited any high risk locations.
He also said it would be technically possible for users to transfer records of their whereabouts from the Leave Home Safe app to the health code, but stressed that this would only be done if people agreed to it.
However, National People’s Congress Standing Committee member Tam Yiu-chung said a voluntary system would be unacceptable to mainland authorities. Mr Tam was himself asked by the Central Government not to travel to Beijing for a meeting this week, following the infection of an airport freight worker from an unknown source.
After 9.15am, we’ll be looking at a possible redevelopment scheme in Sai Wan Ho.
