A community group has called on the government to set concrete goals in the fight against poverty, saying current relief measures are not strong enough. The group known as Poverty Concern Platform surveyed 388 people and found around half of them were not satisfied with the government's anti-poverty efforts, and more than 60 percent said they hoped the new administration could do better. Britain's governing Conservative party has announced the rules for the race to replace Boris Johnson both as party leader and prime minister. Contenders need the support of at least 20 parliamentary colleagues, and the first ballot will take place on Wednesday. Voting will continue until two candidates remain, and the prime minister will be named on September 5. So far, 11 candidates have thrown their hat into the ring. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa agreed to step down following a wave of protests against his government's handling of the economic crisis. The prime minister and the cabinet are also expected to step down, paving the way for an all-party interim government. Over the weekend, protesters stormed both leaders' official residences. Demonstrators are still occupying the presidential palace and prime ministerial residence.
