1. WHOSE CHOICE IS IT ANYWAY?

From a purely aesthetic point of view, electronic programme guides can be the most boring application of Digital TV. But when an operator's standard offering exceeds the tens and becomes hundreds of channels, finding what you want to watch can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. In Europe, Electronic Programme Guides are big business and controlling the viewing experience is the name of the game.

2. CYBERTERRORISM

This paper looks at the threat of cyberterrorism, and addresses the extent of disruption and destruction that cyberterrorist attacks could inflict. The author argues that such attacks could become increasingly attractive for modern terrorist organizations, and the reasons holding them back from such actions are dwindling.

3. BIG IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER

The outside broadcast (OB) van industry is both the last bastion of live TV as well as the frontier of the transition from analogue to digital TV. Buying an OB van is an expensive acquisition. Therefore, serious thoughts have to be given to a number of factors, one being that big does not always mean better.

4. NEWSPAPER SITES MOVE TO REGISTRATION MODEL

It once was the Web bogeyman. The idea of making users register before entering newspaper Web sites gave everyone the willies. Surely this would lead to a huge drop in audience. Well, as it turns out, the bogeyman -- like Bigfoot -- should no longer be feared. It's nothing more than a phantom menace. According to a recent western survey, newspaper sites that built up registration walls last year have found that readers didn't leave in droves. In fact, several of these papers now have more online visitors than they had before requiring registration.
