Public-Private Partnerships on the Waterfront / More problems on the MTR

On Tuesday's Backchat, public and private on the waterfront. The Government and the Harbourfront Commission agree that working with the private sector is the best way to revitalise the waterfront. The FS has promised $6 billion for extending and enhancing promenades on both sides of the harbour - how do we make them interesting, and avoid the pitfalls of an LCSD development, while avoiding claims of collusion, or blatant commercialisation. Are there lessons in the Avenue of the Stars , or the Central Waterfront? What about the experioence in Singapore or Sydney? Could NGOs or the Jockey Club play a part?

After 9.20, more problems on the MTR.

Is social media a good thing? / Youth Hostel in Yuen Long

On Friday's Backchat, is social media a good thing. After Facebook and other social networking sites suffered one of their worst outages, we ask if they're actually causing more harm than good. Do Instagram, WeChat, Youtube, Snapchat, Twitter, QQ and the rest build communities, champion good causes, connect people from around the world with common interests, educate, inform and entertain at almost no cost? Or do they foster fake news, cyberbullying, stress, addiction, envy, low self-esteem, sleeplessness, tiny attention spans and political manipulation? Are you and the world better or worse off? - And will they still be around in a hundred years time?

After 9.20, launch of youth hostel in Yuen Long -  alternative housing for young people.
