In this week's episode, we will talk about advertising in Modern China. Dr. Cécile Armand from the ENS de Lyon in France has written a book “Madmen in Shanghai” which provides a novel perspective on the emergence of the advertising industry in pre-Communist China. Dr Armand was invited by The University of Hong Kong to give a talk entitled “Madmen in Shanghai: A Social History of Advertising in Modern China (1914–1956).”

In this week's episode, we will be talking about income disparity. It has become an increasingly pressing issue for many countries but as policymakers worldwide struggle to find effective solutions, the Singaporean government appears to have discovered an approach that works for its unique context. Professor Bernard Yeung from the National University of Singapore shared his observations on Singapore's efforts to address wealth inequality. Professor Yeung was invited by the Asia Global Institute to give a talk entitled “Taxing the higher-income group and redistributing to the lower-income group – the Singapore experience''.
