In this week's episode, we will talk about advertising in Modern China. Dr. Cécile Armand from the ENS de Lyon in France has written a book “Madmen in Shanghai” which provides a novel perspective on the emergence of the advertising industry in pre-Communist China. Dr Armand was invited by The University of Hong Kong to give a talk entitled “Madmen in Shanghai: A Social History of Advertising in Modern China (1914–1956).”

In this week's episode, we will be discussing the political and economic climate between China and the US. Karen Dynan, Professor of the Practice of Public Policy from HKS, will outline the primary economic challenges the world faces, followed by Eric Li from Chengwei Capital to share his perspectives on China's transition in industrial policy. Anthony Saich, Professor at Harvard Kennedy School, will share his thoughts about China’s prospects in the long run in terms of economic structure and political regime. They were invited by the Asia Global Institute to give a lecture entitled “The Dragon and The Eagle — Must the World Choose?”
