Proposed salary increase for civil servants / Privacy concerns over call filtering apps

On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about proposals to increase civil servants’ wages. Public sector workers could see their salary increase by up to 5.47 percent if the government approves results of the latest pay trend survey.

The survey — which gathered data from more than 110 private firms — points to rises of 4.01 percent for senior civil servants, 4.32 percent for middle-ranking workers and 5.47 percent for junior staff.
Civil servant unions have expressed support towards the proposals, citing the need for the public service to remain competitive amidst growing competition from the private sector.
    Would an increase be justified?
After 9:45, we look into the privacy risks of using call filtering apps.

King Charles cancer diagnosis / Lai see recycling initiatives

    主持人:Janice Wong and Mike Rowse

On Thursday’s Backchat, we talk about King Charles’ cancer diagnosis and whether it may prompt more people to get check-ups.

No details have been released so far about what form of cancer he has, but the announcement of the diagnosis is a notable departure from the rather secretive approach regarding health issues among the royal family.
When King Charles was treated for an enlarged prostate last month, the palace made it a point to say that he wanted to encourage other men who was experiencing symptoms to see a doctor.
This led to a surge in searches on the condition. In Hong Kong, latest figures show the disease claimed the lives of almost 15,000 people in 2022 – the leading cause of death in the SAR.
So could King Charles’ diagnosis help raise cancer awareness? Will it encourage more people to get potentially life-saving check-ups?
After 9:45am, we speak to a green group on the use of red packets amongst locals.
