Lawmakers approved a bill designed to protect the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures across several sectors including banking, healthcare, and telecommunications.

Under the new law, organisations failing to fulfill their responsibilities could face fines of up to HK$5 million if convicted after trial. The legislation comes amidst a spike in cybersecurity incidents involving private businesses.
