From Monday May 6th, Radio 3 brings you some more programs, a new sound, and a little bit of a spring clean. Each weekday evening after the 5pm news, listen to The Close. Brought to you by the Money Talk team. It’s your new drivetime finance, business, and tech review, bookending the working day, just one hour after ‘the close’ of trading in Hong Kong. Our ever-popular youth show, In The Common Room will return to its former slot of 9.05pm, by which time we know you’ll have finished your homework and can give Alyson Hau your full attention. After several requests from his listeners for more nostalgia from midnight until 1am, Peter King will be with you an hour later each day from 10.05pm. At the weekend we will be shortening some of our longer shows to fit in even more diverse content. At 9.05 each Saturday morning, Janice Wong will bring you ‘CultureZine’, as she discovers all sorts of fascinating new things about Hong Kong's flourishing arts and culture life. We’re also welcoming some new musical experts to Sunday afternoon to share their passions with you. From 12.05, Simon Willson will be taking you back to the 80s and 90s for two hours of classic hits and wonderful album tracks, with Simon's Rolled Gold. We welcome jazz historian and vinyl lover Robin Ewing to the team after that, who will be Feeling Kinda Sunday. The Brew’s Mark Rawson will follow Robin with a brand new musical journey all About Folk. And finally, as we like to give a little to everybody who calls Hong Kong home, no matter their cultural heritage, join Jayang Jhaveri and Muskkan Samtani at 9.05 every week for Network South Asia.
Radio 3... From us. To you. Always.
On this weeks’ show, newly released reggae tunes heard throughout the playlist hail from the UK, US and and Europe. A spotlight is on the release two weeks ago of the 'High Place Riddim' LP. It's some well written and sung tracks by contemporary Jamaica's finest, including MitchDiSinga, and Aza Lineage, ALL set to the same catchy backing track. At 3.30pm, live guests are in this week: Four of the multi-tasking members of Sweet and Sour Productions' new play, 'Distressed Asset', by Candice Moore - a tale inspired by the Nancy Kissel milkshake murder case. After 4.30pm, a couple of 80s old-school hip-hop belters get an airing.

Saturday night 6.10 to 8... on Radio 3
Every week, all around Hong Kong, there are many fascinating talks and lectures happening, on a variety of topics. You can easily find them online by looking at the websites of our universities, societies, and libraries. We've chosen ten for you to listen to here on Radio 3. For the next few Sunday mornings at 7.30, Carol Mang will be introducing abridged versions of what we think are a great selection of talks for you to listen to and indulge your... Mind Matters.
In this week's episode, we will talk about ancient Chinese historiography. Early Chinese historical writing differs from ancient Greek and Roman historiography in that it does not emphasise the voice of the historian. Instead, it prefers to keep the historian silent and invisible. Following on from last's week's programme, Professor Martin Kern from Princeton University explores the features of various historian's statements and how they showcase the historian as an exemplary reader of history and its sources. He was invited by the New Asia College and Department of History of CUHK to give a talk entitled The Voice of the Historian in Early China, and we'll hear some of it this week.
Sundays from 7.30am to 8am... on Radio 3
From an absolute STEAMER of a performance from Harry Roy and the band, to a ‘live’ jazz gem from Nina Simone, it’s another busy vintage musical wave, plus Colin has a VCT surprise tune for producer Steve, which may… or may not, make his Sunday morning, as it features both country AND western!
Sundays from 8.30am to 9am... only on Radio 3
On this week’s Sunday Escape there’s an air of excitement and suspense as to whether Paul has made it back to Hong Kong in time to appear on the show. Whatever happens, Carolyn will be there and there’ll be music from new albums from Camera Obscura, Ibibio Sound Machine and The Lemon Twigs along wth new songs from Faux Real, Kamasi Washington, Arab Strap, and Rose Hotel. There also a collaboration between Orlando Weeks and Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale plus the week’s regular features include a track from Newcastle lo-fi punks Milky Wimpshake and a Cranberries cover from Passion Pit.
On top of all that there’s a brand new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz, all the usual chat, and of course biscuits.
